1st London General Hospital, Camberwell [England]
brief history:
It was built in 1900 as the st. Gabriel's college for male students on Cormont road, Camberwell.
In 1914 it was converted as the first London General Hospital.
Also neighbouring Cormont secondary school was added connected by a covered passage.
Medical staff were seconded from st. Bartholomew hospital.
It became crowded, so in April 1915 a houe on 71 Upper Tulse hill was leased a relief hospital,
and that unit became the Margaret Hall nursing home.
In December 1915 on Myatt's fields huts were erected to accomodate over 500 patients.
By 1917 the hospital complex had 231 beds for officiers en 1038 for enlisted men.
Hospital closed in 1919.
