Orchard Military/Convalescent Hospital, Dartford [England]

 

brief history:

 

It started 1902 as a temporary hospital to handle epidemic of smallpox, on the riverbank at Long Reach near Dartford.

In 1915 the military took over the Orchard hospital for sick and wounded soldiers.

On 9 October 1916 it became the 3rd Australian Auxiliary Hospital with capacity for 1200 men.

In 1919 it was converted back to infectious disease hospital.
